The final episode of the season aired Wednesday, July 16, 2008.
The premier custom motorcycle builder in Scottsdale, Arizona, John Shope has been building, modifying, and customizing motorcycles for 30 years. Shope has produced numerous notable custom-designed choppers that include the Captain Morgan’s 'Rum Runner', Mark Mulder’s 'World Series Chopper', and the award winning 'Copperhead' bikes.
The Chopper Challenge, a 10-episode prime-time motorcycle building reality series, brought together nine nationally recognized bike builders to design and build a sponsor-inspired, fully handcrafted, custom logo-branded motorcycle or "chopper" within 30 days. Each builder was initially provided with a box of motorcycle parts, and each was highlighted in their own one hour episode displaying the building of their custom Chopper. Popularity was tracked for each chopper via online public polling on the show's website. Shope was announced as the grand prize winner on the final episode of the season.

The sponsor of Shope's winning chopper was the alternative rock band 'Seether'. "This was a unique partnership", said Shope, speaking about the rock band's sponsorship of his winning chopper. "Seether inspired us to create a design unique to their music style and the public has responded very positively to it."
Other sponsors in the challenge included insurance company Geico, Universal Studios, Jim Beam, Monster Drink, Patron/Lemans, and Time Warner Cable's Roadrunner broadband service.
The Chopper Challenge will have an exhibit at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally starting the first weekend in August in Sturgis, North Dakota, Shope’s winning chopper will be on display along with other the other show participants. "Sturgis is the largest gathering of Chopper enthusiasts nationwide.", stated Shope. "The Chopper Challenge has become a very popular show among this audience."
A second season has been confirmed for the Chopper Challenge series and international broadcast rights are expected soon. CMT reports to reach more than 87 million homes in the US.
